Is it "kwuh-NO-uh”, “KWIN-wah," or KEEN-wah!? I think I'm safe in saying, we’ve all mispronounced this magical grain. No matter how you say it, this super grain is one of the worlds most popular health foods. So why is it so good for us? Well strap in kids, cause you’re about to get a 101 on quinoa (proper pronunciation is in fact, KEEN-wah) In case you we’re still stumped on my above brain buster.
Quinoa is yes, a grain. A grain that is grown for it’s edible seeds. In fact, it's been feasted on for thousands of years throughout South America, well before it grained popularity throughout the worlds food circles, now being deemed the "mother of all grains". It's gluten free, high in fibre, protein, magnesium, vitamin B, iron, calcium, vitamin E and various beneficial antioxidants and contains ALL NINE essential amino acids, what's not to LOVE right? One of my FAV brands is hands down, Go-Go Quinoa . A Canadian Company whom grows their product throughout the mountains of Bolivia. And boy are those mountains producing some next level product, they even had to trademarked their quinoa as ‘Royal quinoa' given it's reputation for being one of the fluffiest grains around.
Now, let's talk cooking with quinoa. For me, it's about keeping it simple! Why? Well because cooking isn't meant to be complicated. It's to be enjoyed! I've rounded up 4 of my favourite (and simple!) recipes, so wether you’re looking for a healthy side dish, veggie bowl, breakfast treat, snack or main course, rest assured, these healthy recipes are packed with delicious flavours and real ingredients. Quinoa for the win, yet again! I hope you LOVE this super grain as much as I do. And hey, just remember, keep it fun, creative and simple. You're using one of the healthiest, most nutritious food on the planet. Enjoy it!
